CHINA’S RISE IN THE INTERNATIONAL SYSTEM : AN ANALYSIS FROM THE CONTENDING THEORIES OF INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS

How a rising power adapts to its new status in the International System is an important challenge for Theories of International Relations (TIR). Since the global economic financial crisis in 2008, Chinese scholars have hotly debated China‟s international positioning. The nature and content of the international system in the coming decades will partially depend upon what roles the emerging powers, especially China, decides to play by dealing with a range of international issues. In order to better understand China‟s rise since its adoption of an open-door policy and economic reforms under president Deng Xiaoping, it is indispensable to makes use of international relations theories. This paper will mobilize international relations theories to how show China‟s rise is changing the international scene dominated by competition for influence amongst emerging and established powers.
